Refrigerator Rejuvenator

Procrastination is the number one enemy of homeowners. How many of us put off cleaning projects that should be done on a regular basis, and then bemoan the fact that it takes a Herculean effort to accomplish them once we finally get around to tackling them?

Right here!

I am so guilty of this, especially when it comes to cleaning the refrigerator. If you clean your refrigerator on a weekly basis you will never have to worry about finding science experiments lurking in corners and drawers.

One of the best ways to keep your refrigerator clean and organized is to use the right food containers. There are a number of different containers available on the market, though I find the glass ones are most practical. I got a bunch of Pyrex containers as a wedding gift, and nearly 10 years later, they still work like a charm. I especially like the way that they can go straight from the refrigerator or freezer to a microwave or traditional oven. In addition, since they are dishwasher safe, they make clean-up a breeze. What’s more, they come in a variety of sizes and shapes, and for a few dollars more you can purchase a set that features lids with built-in vents designed to allow steam to escape during cooking.

I also own a bunch of plastic food containers. Since my daughter was born I have collected several that have divided compartments. While most plastic containers are dishwasher safe, some are not designed for use in the oven. If you are going to invest in plastic containers, it’s best to stick with reputable brands, such as Tupperware or Rubbermaid. Other popular brands include Lock and Lock, Snapware and OXO, though some of the containers don’t hold up well after repeated dishwasher use.

What are your favorite food containers?
