Relief Society: “Eternally Encircled in His Love”

In her talk “Eternally Encircled in His Love” Sister Bonnie D Parkin spoke about the importance of realizing the love that the Savior has for each of us. She spoke to the women at the General Relief Society Meeting two weeks ago. Sister Parkin spoke about how many women struggle with feeling worthy of the love that the Savior has for them.

Sister Parkin compared the love of the Savior to the love that a mother has for her new baby. Some people learn of the love the Savior has for them from the way that their mother loved them. It is important that mothers show their love to their children, so they can understand the Savior’s love as well.

Sister Parkin went on to say that it is important to teach our children about our relationship with the Savior. Children will learn to counsel with the Lord when they see you do it. They will rely on Him, when they realize that you rely on him as well. It is important to teach your children about the Atonement, which is the ultimate symbol of the Savior’s love for us.

Sister Parkin also spoke about the importance of reaching out to the other sisters in Relief Society. It is important to realize that you can help make the difference in someone else’s day. Often sisters in Relief Society will isolate themselves, when really everyone should be reaching out to others. Sister Parkin said,

“As Relief Society sisters, we must strive to manifest the love of Christ, who always sought to please His Father by doing His will. Sisters, we must make every effort to follow His supreme example—to demonstrate such love through our thoughts, our speech, our actions—in all the things we do and are. We must not allow pride or vanity, selfishness or personal agendas to displace our reaching out to others in love. Quite simply and profoundly, we must first allow ourselves to be encircled by God’s love. We do this best by embracing the Savior’s eternal Atonement. Then we can expand that circle to include our family and all others. Such a circle is indeed heaven.”

Sister Parking gave a wonderful talk. She spoke of not only feeling the Savior’s love, but the importance of sharing it with others. We can do this both as mothers and as members of Relief Society. This is an inspiring talk, and I hope that you will take the time to read it. The entire meeting was excellent.
