Review of Shrek 2 Playstation Game

Rated: E for Everyone
Cost: $20-$30
Age: 5+
Rating: 5 Stars

My son recently received the Shrek 2 Playstation Game for his birthday. I am very picky when it comes to games. I want something that will be challenging without being to difficult, not contain graphic violence, basically an E rating, if possible allow multiple players to play at the same time, and be something that my husband and I won’t mind playing with him. I was not disappointed with Shrek 2.

The game allows up to four people, if you have that many controllers, to play together. Each person is a different character from the movie. As the game progresses different characters leave and new ones are added. After meeting Little Red, Gingie goes on a date and Little Red joins the group. When the players fight and beat Puss in Boots he becomes their comrade on the journey. Each character has specific skills like Puss in Boots in the only character that can walk across a rope and Shrek is the only character that can pick up and throw objects. A single player can rotate between the four different characters on the screen depending upon the skill needed to complete a task.

The premise of the game is that Shrek and Fiona are on their way to visit her parents in Far Far Away. Along the way they run into a variety of creatures and have to complete different tasks. Like collecting fairies, rescuing dwarfs, or fighting enchanted pumpkins as a witch flies by overhead. During different points in each level there is a “Hero Time” in which a specific character has to complete a task based on the skills that they have for example when Donkey flies on the back of the dragon to rescue Fiona. Along the way the heroes collect eyeballs, for food, coins needed to buy extra powers or get through gates, and objects that give them more power or health.

There is obviously a level of cartoon violence in the game. Since at many of the levels the characters have to fight trolls, bandits, or other “bad” guys. But there is no blood or gore. My son has played the game by himself and with both my husband and I and we have all enjoyed it.
