Review: Plum Magazine Something Special for Mid-life Moms

There are many excellent parenting magazines on the market today from local and regional to national publications. And although you may luck up and find the occasional feature on mid-life pregnancy and parenthood, none have specifically addressed the needs of the growing number of women over 35 who give birth. Until now. Plum Magazine – plum meaning something especially prized–is available free of charge from participating OB/GYN doctors (members of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists receive free copies for their patients). You can also purchase a copy at select bookstores or order online. Each semi-annual issue is packed with information the mid-life mom can use. And each issue weighs in at over 200 pages! Plum is a combination health and lifestyle magazine and is the first of its kind to address the needs of mid-life moms. Content covers everything from prenatal testing to fertility treatments to newborn care and decorating nurseries.

Unlike some publications that offer content from its print edition online , Plum makes just a few of its content available, although you get a chance to review a list of articles appearing in each issue. So it’s best to try and pick up a copy. Plum also uses first person narrative accounts from mid-life moms so if you have an interesting story to tell about your pregnancy this might be a market for you to consider. Check the web site for specific guidelines.

Although I love Parenting, Parents, Child and the dozens of other parenting publications I routinely read, I am glad that now we have a magazine just for us. If your OB/GYN does not have copies, you can send an e-mail to info@plummagazine.com to find bookstores in your area where you can pick up a copy or go to www.plummagazine.com to order a copy online. The cost is $7.95 plus shipping but I think it’ll be well worth it. I just ordered a copy and I can’t wait to get it.
