RootsTech 2012 will take place on three days in February of this year. There will be more presentations, classes, and sessions going on than one person can possibly manage to attend. Plenty of them are designed for beginning genealogists. RootsTech is a great place to learn more about new ways to do your genealogy research!
RootsTech 2012 will take place on February 2, February 3, and February 4, 2012. Each day, there will be several sessions, which can take the form of a class, a presentation, or a hands-on type of experience. In short, there are two basic categories of sessions. Some are for people who are technology developers. Others are for people who are genealogists. Here are a few that were created with beginning genealogists in mind.
“Genealogy Podcasts and Blogs 101” is a session that will be presented by Lisa Louise Cooke, who is the host of the Genealogy Gems Podcast, and author of the Genealogy Gems Podcast. She will teach you how to locate genealogy podcasts and blogs that are filled with genealogy news, tips, entertainment, and interviews with experts.
“Loc.gov: Using Our Nation’s Library Online” is a session that explains why loc.gov, which is the website for the Library of Congress, is a very rewarding, yet overlooked, website for genealogists to use. You can learn about some of the resources that can be found there. This will be presented by Laura G. Prescott who is the past President of the Association of Professional Genealogists and a consultant at Fold3.com.
“Future of FamilySearch Family Tree” is a session that will discuss how FamilySearch has changed recently. This is where to learn about new features that are being planned for the new FamilySearch.org. This will be presented by Ron Tanner, who is a product manager for the Family History Department.
“A Dozen Ways to Use Your iPad 2 for Genealogy and Writing” is a session where you can learn a dozen ways that you can use the iPad 2 for your own research and writing tasks. You can also learn about free and fee-based apps for family tree building, translation, and more. This will be presented by Lisa A. Alzo, who is the writer of “The Accidental Genealogist” blog.
“Don’t Do Genealogy Alone” is a presentation for genealogists of all levels. This session will be presented by Charles Edmonds, the Customer Service Manager at Geni.com. The focus of this presentation is to point out that today, we can do collaborative genealogy, and get help from other genealogists.
