Safety 1st 3-in-1 Potty ‘n Step Stool

My sister began potty training my nephew a few months ago. She had a potty chair at her house and one at my mom’s. The potty chair at my mom’s house was the Safety 1st 3-in-1 Potty ‘n Step Stool.

This potty chair comes in three pieces – a base, a bowl, and a seat. The seat snaps securely onto the base, and then the bowl is placed in the resulting opening. For boys, there is a built-in deflector shield on the bowl. When your child is ready to use the “big potty,” the seat can be removed and secured onto an adult toilet seat. The base can then be flipped over so that your child can use it as a step stool to climb onto the adult toilet. This Safety 1st potty also comes with a guide offering tips to make potty training easier.

Now, all of that said – this was the worst potty that my sister and mom tried for my nephew. Even though we heard the “snap” sound as the seat was “locked” into the base, every time my nephew attempted to sit down, the seat would tip, resulting in half of my nephew’s bottom ending up in the base. You can imagine the type of mess that created since we all know that children generally have less control over their bladders than most adults. So, they decided to try an alternative – attaching the seat to the toilet in the bathroom. Well, we couldn’t get it to stay so we referred to the instructions. They state” Note: The Potty Seat top is NOT to be used with soft seat toilets.” Well, great! There goes that idea.

I have also never understood why they do not always make potty seats with lids! Anyone who knows anything about children knows how curious they are. If the potty’s bowl was not emptied right away, my daughter would wander over and try to stick her fingers in it, at which time we would promptly remove it from the base – big “oops” on our part! I have learned that Safety 1st has an updated model of this seat with a lid and even handles on the sides of the base. You might want to check that one out instead.
