Sarah Brightman was born on August 14, 1960, near London, England. She is the eldest of six children and developed a work ethic at a very early age. As a child, she would go straight from school to ballet lessons and upon retuning home, would go straight to bed. She never wasted even a minute of her spare time, rising at 4 the next morning to do her homework and begin her schedule anew. She began singing as a teenager and in 1978, released her first single, “I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper”, which became an instant disco hit. She released several more disco singles, but none reached the prominence of the first.
In 1981, Brightman auditioned for a role in the up and coming musical, “Cats.” There she met Andrew Lloyd Webber, and she got both the part and him, the couple marrying in 1984. (He left his first wife for her.) Subsequently, she starred in a number of his musicals, including “Aspects of Love” and “The Phantom of the Opera.” The couple divorced in 1990. She became an international star the following year with the help of her new producer and boyfriend, Frank Patterson. Their first collaboration on a major label release was “Dive” (1993), which was a pop album featuring the hit, “Captain Nemo.” “Fly” followed in 1995 and “Time to Say Goodbye,” the fabulous duet performed with Andre Bocelli that catapulted her to world stardom and fame. This song sold more than 4 million copies in Germany alone and is the biggest selling single there to this day. It is a bestseller in many other countries as well.
Sarah Brightman has a beautiful soprano voice and is adept both as a pop and classical singer. She is also a talented actress with many fans all over the world.
