In the previous two articles in my ironing series, I have been sharing ways in which I save money when I iron. The tips, tricks and strategies that I use when ironing have been saving me money for years, and have contributed to my frugal lifestyle.
As I mentioned in one of those earlier articles, I can sometimes really enjoy ironing. At the same time, there are plenty of other things I would rather do. Believe it or not, there are ways to avoid ironing and still have nice wrinkle-free clothes. No, I am not talking about using the dry cleaner or buying weird “wrinkle -free” fabrics. This is the Frugal Living blog after all, and those ideas would just cost money.
No, there are some strategies that will save you the money it would normally cost to iron. Here they are.
Hanging your clothes to dry instead of using a dryer can usually save you on ironing. Most fabrics will need just a quick touch up at the most, when you hang your clothes. Of course, you are also saving on the cost of using the dryer.
If you do use a clothes dryer, only dry the clothing to damp-dry. Remove the clothes from the dryer as soon as they are done. Wrinkles absolutely love it when you leave clothes in the dryer for hours or even days. Taking the clothes out right away usually eliminates most, if not all, of the wrinkles in the clothes. You will have to hang or fold them as soon as they come out. If you get into this habit, you may never have to iron ever again.
If tightly pressed seam lines are something that is important to you or someone you care for, you’ll still have to iron, but the ironing will be much quicker, since all you are doing is quickly pressing in those lines.
Some dryers even have a wrinkle-free setting. That setting is useless, though, if you don’t retrieve the clothes right away.
