Scam Alert – Rebate Processing

It has been a while since I have discussed any of the home-based business scams that are floating around out there on the internet just waiting to snatch the hard-earned money of people who just want to find home-based work. The scam that I learned about today involves a so-called opportunity where you would process rebates at home. Supposedly, companies that offer rebates need people to process those rebates and they outsource that work to people who process rebates for them from their homes. Unlike some of the other scams out there that do a reasonably good job of appearing to be believably legitimate, in my opinion this one just sounds fishy from the description.

Even though it does not sound legitimate to me, this scam still gets people interested in it so it is important to talk about some of the details. The scammers use average sounding names like Cindy Dalton, Angel Stevens, and Angela Penbrook to make it sound like regular people just like you are processing rebates in their homes and making lots of money doing it. Many of the rebate processing scams state that you make a certain amount of money per rebate processed. Fifteen dollars seems to be a common amount. Hidden in the fine print or not mentioned at all is the fact that you have to send a rebate from your own funds, usually about five dollars, to the buyer. The company does not supply you with the money that you are to send out as rebates.

Like many other work at home scams, rebate processing scams target people who are desperate to work at home and desperate for money. They use words that appeal to emotion while being very evasive about the actual facts of what you will be doing, focusing instead on getting your attention with promises that your financial troubles will be over and you will have the lifestyle of your dreams. What you actually end up doing when you get one of these supposed jobs processing rebates is that you join Clickbank, a site where thousands of products are advertised. Next, you put advertisements up online and hope that someone will buy the product that you are advertising. Sometimes, you may need to spend money to put the ads where they will be noticed. All the while, there are hundreds if not thousands of others advertising the same things that you are. If someone happens to click on your ad and actually buy one of your products, you do make money on it but you also have to send the customer a rebate from your own funds.

As with the information that I have shared about other scams that target people looking for home-based work, I hope that this post helps to keep people away from the scams so that they can keep their money and their dignity.
