Scrap Scrapbooking

Just when I thought that I had seen it all when it came to unique theme scrapbooks, the owner of my local craft store pulls out another zinger. Her latest creation: a scrapbook made entirely of scrap materials. You have to see it to believe it.

The mastermind behind the idea is a professional scrapper who really doesn’t have to worry about budget restraints. However, she put together the incredible memory book to illustrate that scrapbooking doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. This book is the epitome of budget scrapping. We’ve all heard lectures or read articles about how we should be resourceful when it comes to finding scrapbook embellishments, especially in these tough economic times. I’ve actually written a few posts on how you can cut down on scrapbooking spending by simply rummaging around your home for scrappable materials. However, this book that is currently being displayed at my local craft store, takes the idea a step further by creating an album that is made entirely of repurposed items.
Some of the items featured in the book are ones that most of us toss in the trash on a daily basis, such as:

*Ribbons and bows from gifts and gift baskets

*Stickers that come in junk mail

*Buttons from outgrown clothes

*Lace from the hem of an old dress or tablecloth

*Beads from broken jewelry

*Tissue paper from gifts

*Paper scraps found in new purses or as filler for new shoes

*Paint chips

*Photos of cartoon characters from children’s clothing tags

*Leftover greeting cards (cut out the photos or copy inspirational saying featured in the card)

If you don’t want to dig through trash or make like a bag lady to assemble your next budget scrapbook, then consider saving by visiting websites that offer free scrapbooking supplies. For example, you can obtain amazing clip art for free from Free Graphics, Clip Art Connection, Free Clip Art Images, and Royalty Free Clip Art.
