Old Man Winter is alive and well here in the Upper Midwest. Judging by the Weather Channel, he is kicking up trouble from coast-to-coast, which is probably why so many people are looking to jet-off to tropical locales right about now.
If you are one of the lucky ones and a trip to paradise is in your near future, don’t forget to document your fun in the sun. You’ll need those photos and mementos to create a beach-themed scrapbook when you return.
Crafting eye-popping beach vacation layouts is always fun, especially since the theme is so casual. Unlike wedding or other formal events, vacations yield more whimsical page designs, which allow you to take great liberties. For example, if you have a sun goddess in your family, you could design a layout featuring sand-colored background paper. To enhance the layout, spray the paper with a photo-safe adhesive, and then sprinkle it liberally with clear glitter. Next, place photos of your sunbathing beauty on the “sand” and embellish the remainder of the page with stickers in the shape of sunglasses, beach umbrellas, bottles of sunscreen, and floppy hats. Depending on how colorful your background is, you could convert your beach photos to black-and-white, so the images don’t get lost in a sea of different shades and hues.
If you are not into baking under the blazing sun, then design a layout that features other beach-related activities, such as collecting seashells and colored glass. My young daughter loves hunting for shells and glass during our evening strolls along the water. We bring a small pail for her to store her treasures, and then use the smaller shells to create page borders in our vacation scrapbook. Last year I created a page using heavy cardstock that I decorated with my daughter’s shells and a few shell-shaped die cuts that I colored in with acid-free markers to give them a more lifelike appearance. Finally, I arranged photos of my little one gathering her loot, and then I added a journaling block which I filled with anecdotes of our beach adventures.
