In a previous post I touched on the subject of interactive scrapbook layouts. The boom in technology has inspired many scrapbook fans to add unique elements to their page designs which make paging through a memory album a hands-on experience in more ways than one.
One of the trendiest interactive elements available to scrappers today is the mini recorder. These tiny high-tech devices document everything from a child’s first word to a favorite song or a spouse’s snoring. I previously mentioned that PictureThatSound is a popular pick in scrapbook recording devices; however, it isn’t the only option available.
Another reputable sound recording device for scrapbooks is a Sound Stripe. I was introduced to the product last year via a kit purchased by my avid scrapper neighbor. The Sound Stripe consists of a digital recorder with built-in optical reader which works with specially coded labels that you can easily attach to your scrapbook layout. What’s nice about this particular device is that it uses digital chip technology, so there’s no equipment to hook up, and no discs to deal with; rather, the stripe comes equipped with just two buttons–one to record your sound and one to play back.
Sound Stripes can record and automatically retrieve up to 30 sound bites that last up to 20 seconds each. Another bonus with the device is that a red LED light remains steady as you record your message. Then, at the 15-second mark, the light starts flashing to indicate that you only have five seconds of space left on the recorder. When the light goes off, the device is done recording and you have the opportunity to press the green “Play” button and listen to your chosen sound. If you don’t like what you hear, simply record the sound again. Once you document the message you want to feature in your scrapbook simply peel off the back of the Sound Stripe and adhere the label to your layout. Just remember to make sure the Sound Stripe is placed on top of the page protector and not under it or you won’t be able to access the message properly.
