Scrapbook Layouts as Gifts

left

Earlier this summer I attended a wedding for one of my former TV news co-workers. He and his wife got married in a lovely ceremony on the shores of Lake Michigan. It was a touching vow exchange, though, I was equally impressed by the gifts the couple received from the bride’s crafty friends. Each of the gals from her weekly book group got together to design individual scrapbook layouts for the newlyweds’ wedding memory album.

While this is not an entirely novel idea, what made their layouts stand-out (to me, anyway) was the fact that they all included the same content, though, each was arranged in a unique manner. For example, each page featured one photo of the bride and groom, plus a photo of the bride, groom and the person who designed the page. Then, there were two open photo mats where the newlyweds could add pictures of their choosing. Finally, each page also included a journaling block featuring a heartfelt message from the gift giver to the newly married couple, and several inspirational verses, quotes and poems. Some of the girls used the inspirational quotes as page borders, while others printed them directly on photo frames, and still others simply placed them in random spots on the layout.

Some of my favorites included:

Printed near clip art flowers: “May your love bloom brighter and your companionship grow sweeter with each passing year. Congratulations on your marriage.”

Printed under a hand drawn rainbow: “Wishing both of you a world of happiness and joy on your wedding day.”

Printed near stickers of kitchen supplies: “May your marriage be filled with all the right ingredients: a heap of love, a dash of humor, a touch of romance, and a spoonful of understanding. May your joy last forever! Congratulations!”

Printed on a frame with the couple’s photo: “Your wedding day may come and go, but may your love forever grow. Congratulations to the perfect couple!”
