Scrapbooking is Supposed to Be Fun!

Do you ever feel bogged down by your scrapbooking? I do. Sometimes I look at all those photos, or I think about how behind I am already, and I just say, “What is the point?”. On those days, I don’t scrapbook. Shocker, I know. But, what IS the point if you are not inspired? What IS the point if you are not having fun?

We could easily put our photos in your normal photo albums and look at them at our leisure, but in my opinion, the whole point of scrapbooking is to have fun creating a memory that you will cherish forever. It is to give special honor and respect to those photos that you love most. Here are some tips to help you have more fun with your scrapbooking:

*Play some music that calms you, or gets you pumped up. Everyone is different. Some people need silence to think, and others can just crank those layouts out if they have some music to get them going. Depending on my mood, I can be both.

*Go buy one new thing. Sometimes, this can be a little expensive, but it can be all it takes to get me excited to do a layout. It might be something as simple as a new pen, or a new set of alphabet stickers. Spending $5 might be enough to get you inspired and getting some scrapbooking done!

*Invite a friend over. Many people already do crops and have scrapbooking nights, so this idea is not really new, but if you have never done it, you are missing out! I had two friends that I would do this with before I moved, and we would always get so much accomplished just by having someone to chat with, or having new supplies to share.

*Don’t be so rigid with scrapping in order. If you love a picture, and think to yourself, I can’t scrapbook that for two years….that’s just silly! Don’t make yourself wait until you are caught up to that point chronologically. You can always scrapbook that layout and then set it aside to be put in an album until later.

*Watch your favorite movie you’ve seen a hundred times while you scrapbook. Since you’ve seen it so many times, it probably won’t be as distracting, and it might just help keep you on track and enjoy your time even more.

*Get a change of scenery. Sometimes we are overwhelmed in our space, so try moving to a new area. Scrap outside on a nice day, or just move to a different room in your house. Having a different wall to look at will make it more interesting.

*Join a scrapbooking website. I’ve posted about this before, but sharing your layouts online is a great way to have more fun scrapbooking.

If you aren’t in the mood to scrapbook, or it just doesn’t seem fun anymore, then maybe you need a break. It’s OK, we all get in that funk from time to time. Sometimes it feels like work, and in my opinion, that is when you definitely need to take a break! But, if you are not able to step away from those scissors, try some of the tips above, and see if it can’t become fun again.
