Scrapbooking School Subjects

A great project for creative kids is scrapbooking. We have all heard of scrapbooking the school years of our children. Why not allow the children scrapbook about their favorite subject or their own school year? This is a nice remembrance for the child and the parent. If you are so inclined you may want to give it as a nice teacher appreciation gift.

How is scrapbooking different from notebooking?

Notebooking is a written and illustrated account of the school year or a subject in school. Items that go into a Notebook are narrations, student written poems, worksheets, drawings, journal entries, tests, and anything to do the theme. Notebooks are normally housed in a three ring binder. The sheets used in a notebook can vary from lined paper to blank paper to premade notebooking paper. A notebook does not have to be artistic, fancy, embellished or creative in that sense. It can be as simple or fancy as the student desires or the subject demands.

Scrapbooking is a visual representation of an event or special time in a person’s life. A scrapbooker uses visual aides to tell the story with only a few quotes or sentiments on a page. Some scrapbook pages may include more narration or a story but mostly a scrapbook is a treat for the eyes. For a child it is an art project and a means for self expression. A scrapbook pages consist of photos, tickets to the zoo, memories of a field trip, a tribute to a class team, or memories of extra circular activities. However, a student may also use a scrapbook for history, art class, science or geography.

As a homeschooling mom, I am always looking for ways for my children to express themselves creatively. I have found that scrapbooking not only allows for expression but when done for a subject or unit study it helps the child retain the knowledge.
