Prom is huge deal in the small town in which I reside. Everywhere you go these days you are greeted with marquees and banners advertising sales on prom this and prom that. Discounts on dresses, jewelry, shoes, and flowers are yours for the taking. Even our local scrapbook store is getting in on the action. This weekend the owner erected a display with prom-themed paper and embellishments. The sign hanging above the sample layouts reads: “Scrapping Pretty in Pink Moments.” Interestingly, I wore black to my senior prom, but I digress.
Prom scrapbooks are not difficult to put together. In fact, if you have created a wedding scrapbook in the past you can use many of the same techniques to make your prom layouts pop.
Need some inspiration? Here are some ideas to include in your layouts:
Pre-Prom: Document the planning stages. Include photos of you and your friends trying on dresses and deciding on the right shade of nail color. If you are on the prom planning committee add a few of your notes to the layout.
Getting dressed: On the night of prom make sure you take plenty of photos of your dress. Consider making a journaling block that details how long it took you to decide what dress you’d be wearing and what accessories you chose to go with your ensemble.
Salon trip: If you are having your hair and make-up professionally done for the occasion, make sure to bring a camera along to document your transformation. Take before and after shots to add to your scrapbook and jot down what inspired you to choose your particular look.
Flowers: Take photos of the flowers you got and gave on prom night. What did your corsage look like? What did the boutonniere look like? Note the type of flowers used in each.
Transportation: Did you rent a limo or a stretch Hummer? Take photos of your prom wheels and add a journaling block if you used an extra special vehicle like your date’s father’s prized convertible?
Dinner: Document where you had dinner before prom. Take notes on what you ate and perhaps save a match book or menu from the restaurant to add to your layout.
The Dance: Don’t forget to take pictures of the dance itself. Note the decorations, the theme of the prom and any special songs you danced to with your date.
Finally, take photos of any post parties you attend. Often schools host a special after party event with games and prizes that keeps rolling to the wee hours of the morning.
