Most pet owners love their fur babies as much (and at times, more) than their human offspring. Consequently, it stand to reason that the four-legged members of the family get equal time when comes to scrapbook space.
One of my best friend’s is a huge animal lover. She has three dogs, two cats, a horse, a gerbil, chickens and a bunny. Oh, and she has four children too. Given the size of her brood, it’s no surprise that most of her scrapbooks contain an equal mix of pets and kids. What makes her layouts so special is the way she combines her love for her human babies and her fur babies on the same page.
The following are some of her favorite page designs:
Look-Alike: Have your kids pose with your pets in similar positions. Kids love imitating animals, so why not use it as inspiration for a scrapbook page? If you don’t have pets, then head to the zoo and snap your son or daughter making like an elephant, bear or gorilla. Just be sure to frame that shot so that the animal they are pretending to be is clearly seen in the photo. Once you select your favorite shots, add die-cuts, stickers or stamps to embellish the page. If you have multiple children, consider placing several images on the page together to make a montage of sorts. You could also spice up the page by adding a cage effect to the photos. To create cages on your page simply use a rotary cutter to remove sections from a piece of silver scrapbook paper or aluminum foil. If you don’t have a cutter, you can slice slim bar-shaped pieces out of paper and place them behind a frame.
Talking Animals: Words are great elements to add to scrapbook layouts. Once you create the kids and animal design of your choice, go back and add quotes and word bubbles. If you are scrapping zoo animals, such as lions or tigers, then use words, like “ROAR.” Likewise, if you are scrapping a snake scene, then you can add, “SSSSSSSSSSS” in large bright letters. I would suggest using stickers, or if you have impeccable handwriting, then add the words freehand with an acid-free ink pen.
