Seasonal Wrap-Up

We are just five days away from the official start of spring.

Good news for those longing for warmer weather, not so much for scrapbook fans who have yet to finish winter-themed layouts.

Namely me.

I am really hoping the change of seasons will act as incentive for me to get my Christmas/New Year’s/winter photos printed and placed on a page before Easter rolls around.

While lamenting my tendency to procrastinate, I’ve noticed there are some perks to holding off on crafting seasonal page designs. For starters, I’ve been able to save quite a bit of money on seasonal embellishments and paper. Currently, my local scrapbook store has a ton of winter-themed supplies on clearance. I was also able to pick-up some small punches (also marked down) and plan to make a snowman from white cardstock. I will decorate him with scraps of ribbon and some leftover buttons from my personal stockpile.

In addition to the snowman, I plan to cover the layout with snow made from mini cotton balls. Interspersed with the cotton snow, I am planning to cut snowflakes from squares of white, silver and blue paper that I also grabbed from a clearance bin at my local scrapbook store. If I have enough time I want to mat small circular photos of my daughter in the middle of each of the snowflakes to add more pizzazz to the page.

I also saw a sample winter-themed layout on the display table at my local scrapbook store in which the owner used chalk and watercolor paint around the edges of paper snowflakes to give them a softer look. Hopefully, I can replicate the look in my own book, though I am not a big fan of using paint on layouts.

Finally, I found this quote: “Even when it’s cold outside, our memories keep us warm,” which I plan to use on a page featuring my daughter and I sharing a mug of hot chocolate. I printed out a clip art image of a steaming mug and have plans to place our photo in the middle of it. I’ll then embellish the page with the quote and additional stickers, stamps, and die cuts supporting the cozy winter theme.
