Sell It Again Tips

Can you resell items that you once bought used? Of course you can! If you bought it, chances are that someone somewhere will do the same. Sometimes I can even sell items for more than I paid, even after I’ve used them. Here are my sell it again tips.

Buy Good Quality Items

When you buy anything that is not immediately consumable, such as food or dental floss, buy good quality, especially when you buy used. Many times I would rather buy a good quality but used item instead of a cheaper quality brand new with tags item. This is because the higher quality item will hold up, even after being worn by multiple children in the case of clothing. Also, good quality items will be easier to resell later.

Take Care of Your Stuff

If you take good care of the items you have, even previously used items, you should be able to resell them when they have outlived their useful life with you. For example, attack stains right away and hang clothing (or lay flat to dry), save original boxes and instructions on toys and keep all of their pieces together, practice regular maintenance on vehicles, and keep everything clean.

Find Multiple Outlets to Sell Items

There are many ways and many places to resell used items, and which ones you choose may depend on the items and where you live. There are consignment shops both chain and privately owned, several internet auction sites, outgrown sales, and of course your own yard sale. Calculate what you might make against the cost of selling, and make sure to include any fees as well as gas and what your time is worth.

Go Where the Customers Are

If you have speciality items, try to find venues where people will be looking for those items. For examples, dance costumes might best be sold to friends at the dance studio, a local hobby group might jump on your model trains, and a local contractor might be looking for a deal on a 25-foot ladder.
