Should You Stay Inside or Outside Disney World?

When you book your vacation to Disney World, one of the first things you have to think about beyond transportation is ‘where do I stay?’ I’ve been to Disney World a half dozen times and I’ve stayed both ‘inside’ the world and outside of it as well. Hands down, if you were to ask my preference, I would admit to being far fonder of the World hotels whether it’s The Boardwalk, the Grand Floridian or the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

But staying inside the ‘World’ is an expensive proposition. Hotel rates run from around $75 to $2,000 dollars a night. (Yes, $2,000!) But when you stay at a ‘World’ hotel, you feel a part of the Disney experience from start to finish. You wake up surrounded by the ‘theme’ of your hotel whether it’s the beautiful African motif of the Animal Kingdom or the South Pacific at the Polynesian or the Atlantic City opulence of The Boardwalk – there’s a little something for everyone.

Don’t get me wrong; staying outside the ‘World’ has its perks. While the Disney Magic Transport is fantastic, most hotels in the Orlando area offer some type of transport to the major attractions – remember, Orlando is definitely a tourist town. When you stay outside the ‘World’ you can likely find less expensive lodgings and food will be cheaper, too.

When you stay outside the ‘World’ you are also more inclined to visit other Orlando area attractions including Universal Studios, Sea World, Busch Gardens and more. In 2009, with the advent of Harry Potters Wizarding World to the wealth of attractions in the area, chances are you will be looking outside the ‘World’ whether you stay inside of it or not.

Still – if I can, I’ll likely always stay inside the ‘World’ whether I plan a trip elsewhere to another feature attraction or not. Do you prefer to stay inside or outside of the ‘World’?
