Showing Children the Importance of God

Sure, you always talk to your children about God. You tell them that He created the earth. You tell them that He made them special. You tell your children that they should read the Bible because it tells us more about God and it was given to us by God. You tell your children that they should pray to God. You tell your children to be kind to one another because it is right according to the Bible. You tell your children about love. You tell your children about the importance of attending worship.

But do you show your children the importance of God?

Do you read your Bible daily as an example for you children? Do you pray to God? Are you kind to others? Do you show love towards everyone, even those individuals you do not like or get along with? Do you give reverence to God? Do you put God’s Word into practice? Do you faithfully attend worship?

I have always heard that a sermon lived is many times more effective than a sermon preached. Children, especially, are observant creatures and will notice the things that you do in your life. Your children will notice if you read your Bible, or if you do not read your Bible. Your children will notice if you pray, or if you do not pray. You children will notice if you are kind and loving toward others, or if you are not kind and loving toward others. Your children will notice if you put worship to God first in your list, or if you allow things such as sleeping in or a Sunday morning brunch to get in the way of your worship of Him.

Show your children the importance of God. Read the Bible with them. Pray with them (and more than just before they go to bed or before each meal). Make it a priority to be at Bible class and worship. Show your children the importance of God by living the life you should be living anyway – the Christian life with God.
