We slept in a bit this morning, so I have fully recovered from yesterday’s funk, which by the way; ended once I soaked up enough light from my full spectrum lamp. The Project Night performances were awesome. Some funny were, some were entertaining, some were serious, and were some educational.
It was amazing to see how each child internalized what they learned so far this year, and presented such a large array of different and complicated projects. The kids studied the modern time period, so projects included everything from an oldies black and white film to the Star Wars Theme on Piano, to a mini Christian Rock Concert. My daughter spoke about Scott Joplin a famous black composer from the early 20th Century, and played his song, The Entertainer. My son, made a 10-minute movie on how television works.
We got to bed a little late last night, so as homeschoolers, we can rise a little late if necessary. My daughter however did not rise very well. She has a sore throat and is not feeling herself.
Sick days are a different kind of thing in a homeschooling household. The child tends to stay a little closer to bed, but unless a child has something like the flu where they spend the day sleeping, they still manage to get their schoolwork done. (I do let them put off any tests and quizzes until they are feeling better though).
Right now, my sick child is downstairs practicing on the piano, bundled up in an extra sweater with a cup of hot cocoa nearby. She will work on and off as she pleases. I will apply no pressure to get anything done, but will let her work at her own pace. Meanwhile, I will give her vitamins and an Old Wives’ sore throat remedy or two.
Chances are that by noon or so, she will feel better anyway and our day will have been just as effective as any other homeschooling day.
