When I interviewed Sandra Worth she had mentioned experiencing something along these lines. A day when she felt her beloved Rex’s presence so strongly she knew his spirit was still with her.
Ever since we moved to Nashville Budly doesn’t do it as much as he did when we lived in Jacksonville, but he used to send hellos to Wayne all the time –via tennis balls. Wayne would always find them on his runs, bring them home, and say, “Budly left me a tennis ball again today.”
Tennis balls were hands down Budly’s favorite toy. I can’t tell you the dozens upon dozens of tennis balls Wayne collected in the years after Budly passed.
I haven’t had any waking encounters with a dearly departed dog’s presence, but Mackie sometimes visits me in my dreams. Only a couple of days before Budly passed I dreamt of Mackie. It was the first time I’d dreamt about him in years.
I knew it meant something. He was sitting in the passenger seat of a truck and my Uncle Fred was driving with Budly chasing after them barking wildly. Since I hadn’t ever dreamt of my uncle to my knowledge, and since the dream had had a weird feeling to it, I felt sure it was a harbinger of someone’s imminent passing. Specifically my Uncle Fred’s.
Not so. Budly was the one who passed. And shortly after he did I had another Mackie dream. This time Mackie, Budly, and Tan (my sister’s dog that had died a few years earlier) were all running side by side together in a wide open grassy meadow. They were clearly about as happy as any dogs could be. I felt that was Mack’s way of letting me know he’d gotten Budly to where he’d needed to go safe and sound. I experienced the greatest sense of peace after that dream.
