Simple Family Fun

left

If you tuned into NBC’s “Weekend Today” this morning, you may have noticed what a big deal meteorologist Bill Karins made amount the gorgeous weather the entire nation is basking in right now.

It’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the Mother Nature at her best. Don’t stress about minor details; rather, use this window of opportunity to have fun with your family by taking a walk in the park, hosting a backyard barbeque, or creating a garden party for the girls. If you live near the ocean, a lake or public pond, then set-up shop in a pavilion or bring along a large blanket where you can sit and chat with other adults while the kids run and play.

You can also have fun in the sun closer to home with a simple project like drop-and-drip painting. Have the kids change into their swimsuits and let loose with this messy activity, then let them have a blast using a hose to wash off the remnants of their masterpieces.

Materials:

Plastic cups

Water

Food coloring

Newspaper

Paper

Rocks

Straws

Directions:

Fill several plastic cups with water.

Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup to make different colors.

Place some newspaper on the driveway or sidewalk.

Place rocks on the corners to keep the paper in place.

Arrange a few pieces of plain white paper on top of the newspaper.

Insert a straw in a cup of colored water, and place a thumb or finger over the top end of the straw. This will keep water inside the straw when you remove it from the cup.

Lift the straw out of the cup and over the paper.

Release your finger from the straw end so the colored water drops onto the paper.

Take turns raising the straws full of colored water to different heights and seeing how the height of the drop changes the shape of the drips.
