One problem I always have with my portable hard drive is that I can’t remember what I actually have saved on it. I purchased a small portable 60GB hard drive so I can transfer files from my work computer as well as my home desktop and laptop. The portable hard drive was a great investment, but often times I forget whether or not I have saved this or that to the drive and have to plug it into a computer and check its contents before I can be on my way.
SmartDisk has come up with a solution to that problem by creating a hard drive that tells you what is on it. The FireLite Xpress portable hard drive has an LCD screen that displays the contents of the drive, when each item was last saved, and how much free space you have left on the drive to save items.
I think this is a truly fantastic idea, especially for the absent minded folks like myself who don’t want to have to plug their hard drive in constantly to figure of whether a file or folder has been saved, or whether or not they have enough space on their hard drive to hold something else. Having all of that information right there on the LCD screen makes it everything much simpler.
The hard drive like most portable hard drives connects to your computer through a USB port, and can make saving and transferring your files much easier. Most portable hard drives do not have to be installed onto a particular computer and the contents of the hard drive can be viewed and accessed by simply plugging the drive into any computer.
A 60GB version of the FireLite Xpress usually runs around $200 and is available for purchase from most computer and electronics stores.
