Now that spring break is over, my first grader has begun counting down to the last day of school.
Where has the year gone?
I can’t believe that school will be over in just six short weeks. I want to cry. Not just because I will soon be the mother of a second grader, but also because I have yet to scrap more than the first day of school in my daughter’s memory book.
I still have big plans for her book. I just need to get my act together so I can bring my big plans to fruition. Some of the ideas I have in the works include scanning my daughter’s class photo, and then creating a special background paper with smaller versions of the photo running continuously on the page. You can do this on Photoshop or any other photo editing software program, though if you plan to print it out, you really need to have a high quality printer; otherwise the end result looks like a big blur.
Another layout idea I have been toying with features my daughter’s report cards. I want to design different layouts for each quarter and place the report card on the page with embellishments like die cut shapes and stamps that reflect her academic achievements.
I also have a number of candid shots from different school functions that I want to add to the book. I have earmarked a few of the photos and plan to add talking and thinking bubbles with funny quotes. The other candid shots can be used in photo frames made from patterned cardstock paper.
In regards to the (only) two pages that I have completed, the tributes to my child’s first day of school include photos of her in her school uniform carrying her new lunch bag and her new backpack. I also cut out the date and headlines from the front page of our local newspaper, and added school-themed embellishments, such as stickers, stamps and die cuts.
