Social Hall Dinners

As we mentioned earlier, the recession is going to have a big impact on our food bills. With food prices rising by the day, we need to really buckle down and become extra clever about our food choices.

We have talked about ways to save on eating out before, but we haven’t explored an inexpensive way to eat out and enjoy some entertainment as well. With this idea, you can have an inexpensive meal, meet new people and get involved in good causes as well.

Social hall dinners (or breakfasts or lunches) are a great value. They are usually set up to support a cause. Sponsors, such as local restaurants and businesses donate the food and entertainment. Then for a very small price, you can go and enjoy it all. There is everything from pancake breakfasts with celebrities and the traditional spaghetti dinners to elaborate buffets and beef and beer get together events. The meals are usually low priced and very delicious.

Where can you find these social hall dinners? Many churches sponsor them. Small town and communities may also run these events. You can also find social hall dinners being organized by local clubs, such as the Knight of Columbus, the Lions Club and more. Fire stations and police stations and clubs will also feature these events throughout the year.

When the economy is in a slump, these social hall dinners tend to crop off more often, as people come out to support a cause and still enjoy a good meal.

Keep your eyes open, as these social hall dinners are often posted on flyers at local businesses or public places. Call your local government, such as your town hall, and ask them what might be on the calendar. Check websites for local businesses or simply ask around town about these events.
