Social Media Helping Parents

I’m not a huge fan of Twitter. In fact, I am not a fan at all. Don’t hate. I’m not in the I’m-above-using-social-media camp; rather, I simply don’t have the time or means to share 140-character random thoughts with legions of tweeps.

Plus, I doubt anyone cares whether or not I watching a swarm of locust fly by my window or that I just devoured four courses and a bottle of wine at a fancy French restaurant and I’m headed toward unconsciousness.

Though, I could be wrong.

Still, according to a new report, a huge chunk of Twitter fans are parents. The report doesn’t say whether said parents got indoctrinated in the social network via their kids or whether they’re on so they can follow their kids’ every move or they are just desperately trying to look cool for their kids.

Whatever.

The fact is Twitterverse is filled with a bunch of parents, many who are famous and have a ton of followers.

Case in point: Drew Brees.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback had followers all a Twitter yesterday when he appealed to them to help him name his second soon-to-be born son.

“My wife is due any day now with baby boy #2. We have a few names picked out but haven’t decided yet. Looking for “b” names. Suggestions? #fb,” the football star tweeted from his account @drewbrees.

In a matter of minutes thousands of Brees’ tweeps responded with prospective names ranging from Braden, Barclay, Beau, and Bennett to Branson, Bullet, Brando, Bede and Benton, as well as Bowen, Braylon, Boaz and Beckett… and the list goes on and on and on… and on.

Brees is far from the first parent who has turned to the members of Twitter Nation to help select baby names, pet names or to vent about worthless no names that give them grief on the subway.

Furthermore, I doubt he will be the last.

Are you a parent on Twitter? If so, what’s the most obscure tweet you’ve ever launched into cyberspace?
