Vacations are all about fun, so why not continue the good times when crafting your travel scrapbook. Unlike wedding, anniversary or retirement memory albums, vacation-themed scrapbooks are a bit more informal and lend themselves to experimenting with a variety of different scrapping techniques.
The following tricks and tips are simple ways to spice up a summer vacation scrapbook:
Signs: Instead of purchasing postcards from all of the places you visit, consider snapping your own photos of road signs or billboards advertising local attractions. When you get home, enlarge the pictures and add them to different layouts. For example, if you are taking a cross-country road trip, then snap shots of signs that feature the number of miles remaining until you reach your destination.
Photo Grid: During my family’s last vacation I took more than 800 photos. That’s way too many to feature in a single scrapbook. However, I wanted to add as many of the images as possible, so I designed a photo grid instead of purchasing additional pages. You can make a grid on your computer and then resize your photos to fit in each square. You will likely have to crop the images you select to feature in the grid, but your hard work will be well worth the effort. When you are done you will end up with an amazing photo collage that displays your favorite memories on a single page.
Beach Layout: If you are looking for an eye-catching technique to display your beach vacation photos, then consider crafting a page that looks like the ocean. Simply apply a sheet of tan cardstock over the entire page, and then use blue vellum to create waves. Next, arrange pictures of your kids or other family members frolicking in the ocean. Finally, embellish the layout with beach-themed stickers, stamps or die cuts.
