Spielberg Makes a Video Game

It has been a long wait, but we have some news. There are new details about the video game collaboration between Steven Spielberg, legendary film maker and Electronic Arts the popular video game maker.

The game, called “Boom Blox,” will be available is May for the Ninento Wii video game console. Electronic Arts has recently released information that indicates that the game will be a casual game full of “Blox-laying chickens or…baseball-throwing monkeys” or cartoonlike grim reapers in tiki, medieval, frontier, or haunted themed settings.” In other words, it is probably going to be full of a lot of weird and wacky fun. Casual games have seen an increase in popularity over the last few years.

The game is also said to have more than 300 levels that feature more than 30 characters. Rumor has it that the game will be similar to the building-blocks game, Jenga.

The deal between Spielberg and Electronic Arts, which was made public back in 1995, will include three games. The second game, as reported by Newsweek last summer, will be released not for the Wii, but for Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony Playstation 3, and will feature a sexy female ET character.

Spielberg was involved in a video game in the past. Do you remember the old Atari 2600? Back in 1982, a game was released for that console, and it was based on the Spielberg hit movie, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. Unfortunately, that game went down in history as the biggest commercial flop in video game history. Of course in that situation, the game was based on an existing commercial franchise, where the soon-to-be released games are being created from scratch with actual input from Spielberg.

I’ll have updates on the game as the release date approaches.
