A parishioner at my parents’ church in Hawaii created a magnificent scrapbook filled with a year’s worth of photos taken at various Masses and church-related functions, and presented it to the parish priest as a Christmas gift.
I got a chance to page through it when I went home to visit earlier this year. The woman did an incredible job crafting the memory album. The scrapbook features a chronological account of every major occasion celebrated in the church, including Easter.
The Easter and Christmas layouts stood out the most, and since we are nearing the end of the Lenten season I thought it would be appropriate to share highlights from the church scrapbook.
The one idea I really liked was the incorporation of popular Easter hymns and poems used as embellishments on the pages. You don’t have to use prayers or Bible verses in your Easter layouts, but you could add a few lines from favorite spring-theme poems. I would select some contemplative ones or joyful proses that inspire personal reflection.
To add a poem or part of a poem in your main design, simply transcribe the words on the page and then add decorative elements such as flower stickers, stamps, a border or a frame. If you want to keep the design simple, then simply copy the poem next to a photo that plays off the word choice.
The book the woman created featured a prayer that was printed on paper and used as the background for photos. If you think this option is a bit too busy, then use the printed paper as the background, and then glue a smaller solid color piece of paper on it and add photos and other embellishments, such as die cuts or stickers to the smaller blank paper. Another option is to simply write the poem on the page so that it forms a design, such as a cross or heart.
