These are no kiddie Zoo Boos. The following Halloween travel attractions are not for the faint of heart. Literally. Many theme parks post large signs warning guests that suffer from heart conditions NOT to partake in the gory Halloween hauntings that are a dime a dozen this time of year, for fear it may cause serious medical emergencies.
If you are cool as a cucumber and creepy mazes, disorienting strobe lights, fog and fake blood don’t make your heart skip a beat or trigger panic attacks, then you might consider traveling to the following Halloween events:
Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia is offering guests “All-Access Insider,” “Eerie Insider” and “Monster Stomp Revamped Insider” tours as part of the park’s Howl-O-Scream. The tours include meet-and-greets with cast members, front-of-the-line access to a haunted house and a chance to transform into one of the gory performers.
Knott’s Berry Farm, located in Buena Park, California, is home to one of the oldest Halloween theme park events in the country. Since 1973 the park has been trying to scare the living daylights out of unsuspecting guests. This year’s “Knott’s Berry Farm Haunt” features 13 mazes, several “scare zones,” seven live shows and more than 1,000 ghastly creatures that roam the park looking for “victims.”
Universal Orlando in Florida also has a history of hosting memorable Halloween events. Since 1991, the theme park has turned its grounds into a haunted horror fest during the month of October. This year, for the park’s 20th annual Halloween Horror Nights, it is planning to go to mad extremes with eight haunted houses, six scare zones and 1,000 “scareactors.” New this year is an evil dictator named “Fear,” who manipulates all the other creatures’ diabolical deeds. In addition to the realistic “film-quality” visuals, the park is also relying on spooky lighting and a variety of special effects to create an illusion of mass mayhem.
