Spring Break

It’s that time of year again. School aged kids are out for Spring Break. Families are heading off to the beaches, zoo’s and amusement parks. Toddlers toddle behind, trying to keep up with their siblings. It is such a fun time of year.

As with any vacation or day out with the family, there are always things to remember. There are items you don’t want to forget and there are things to do before leaving home. Planning any vacation with toddlers takes preparation.

Things to Pack for a Day Trip:

*Sunscreen
*Change of clothes
*Hand Sanitizer
*Camera
*Sippy Cup or Bottle of water
*Snack crackers or cookies
*Stroller

For a day trip, it is often easiest to pack items in a backpack. You can keep everything contained, out of the way in the bag but it is handy if and when you need it. For overnight trips, you’ll want to pack a little more.

Additional Items for Overnight Trips:

*Toiletries
*Additional clothing for everyone taking the trip
*Medications
*Ice chest

If you are planning a picnic, you’ll want to add the following items in addition to food and drinks:

*Blanket to spread out on the ground
*Plastic utensils
*Insect repellent

Toddlers have a short attention span. All of us realize that. So, you’ll want to make sure you you’re your “busy bag” with some toys and snacks in the car for the ride to your destination.

Once you are at your destination, remember that your toddler will do best if they are already fed so plan to eat before you arrive or soon after. Hungry children are grumpy children. If the next meal is a couple of hours away, be sure to offer a snack to deter tantrums.

Spring break is a fun and important time of year as it promotes family time and is something all school aged children look forward to every year.
