Spring Cleaning Delegation

I have yet to complete my spring cleaning. Although I thought one month would be dedicated to it, life has just gotten busy and taken away from the opportunity to do so.

In fact, I have only managed to get through three rooms. Even then, I didn’t completely finish the last one.

So I have been thinking of some ways to make spring cleaning easier. Not in the sense that there is less work but in making it easier to accomplish.

One of the things that I came to realize is I am trying to take on a house with three levels all by myself. Why should I be the only one doing it all? There are four other people who live here and contribute just as much to the necessity of spring cleaning.

So this weekend I plan on coming up with a list of tasks that can be delegated. Not only do I expect my children to spring clean their own bedrooms, but they can help with other areas of the house.

Of course, a little inspiration can’t hurt. I know I need it when I am tackling bigger jobs in the house such as this. So one idea I have is to provide a reward when their task is accomplished.

It might be cooking their favorite meal, going out for ice cream or baking their favorite dessert. Do you see a theme here? Yes, it’s all food related. It has a funny way of really speaking to someone’s heart.

My other idea is to set a deadline for which the tasks must be accomplished. I can’t take away from the reality that my children lead busy lives, too. Just as I might need some time to make it happen, they do as well. However a deadline will ensure it actually takes place.

I am going to call this “spring cleaning delegation.” For so many years I looked at spring cleaning as something that I was responsible for…but no more. It’s time to share the joy.
