Stretch Out Your Kids Clothing

playdate In the Home Blog, I’ve been discussing how I am in the middle of switching out sizes and seasons for my kids clothing during this weekend. But did you know that there are some items that you can actually stretch out or remake to get an extra year or two? And if you have too much of one kind of item, such as a zillion onsies, make them over into something you can use. Whether the clothing is too small, too worn or two stained, don’t throw it out. Instead, create a new wardrobe and save on the cost of new.

Onsies can be made into cute little infant dresses with a couple of stitches and the edition of some material for a skirt. Used clothing can be utilized instead of buying new fabric. Just sew a ring of material at the waist. You can use this technique to make dresses out of any t-shirts that have gotten too short.

If you find clothing with stains on them, turn those stains into decoration using a bleach gel pen! Just draw the design on the item to cover the stain, and then add any other decorative touches. Before getting started, place a piece of cardboard inside the item (such as a shirt) to avoid bleaching the other side. Flowers, lightening bolts, wavy lines, favorite characters, or even just dots can rescue that stained item.

If your kids pants have turned into high waters but the waist fits, just add some extra fabric or trim at the bottoms. You can leave them as long pants or cut them into shorts first. While this works well for girls, you can even do this for boys by adding some flannel at the bottom to give it an L.L. Bean lined pants look.

What are your favorite ways to stretch out your kids clothing?
