Summer Time Activities for Children

Summer is quickly approaching and kids will be out of school for their summer break. After spending six hours a day in school the change will be welcomed by most kids. However, this does present the issue of how to keep kids busy and productive during the summer months. Children are always learning even if school is out so setting up the right atmosphere with the right expectations is essential. Allowing a child to replace six hours of school with six hours of video games or social media outlets will teach them to be sedentary. Not only will their muscles but their minds will turn to mush. Summer should be a time to explore and learn freely as well as enjoying the outdoors and having more time to play. What is the trick to keeping kids active? What should they be doing?

Summer Camps: Whether it is an overnight or day camp this can be a great option for kids. They will continue to be social, keep learning and remain or get active. Most summer camps will be filled with physical activity like swimming, horseback riding, hiking and more!

Summer Sports Camps: If you have a child who plays sports during the school year this will be a great way to keep his or her skills sharp. If your child does not play sports this is a way to introduce the child to a sport without the pressure of being on a team. Mostly, this is a way to keep your child active in body and mind.

YMCA: The “Y” has many summer programs for children to pick from. If you need child care the “Y” can provide that while taking your child back and forth to “Y” classes he or she is signed up for. They can have a fun, active and educational summer.
