Super Savings on Spring Break Travel

Ordinarily, I would never consider spending spring break in Sin City, but when money talks, I listen. In this case, Spirit Airlines is doing the speaking with unbelievably low fares from Los Angeles to Vegas. How low is the discount carrier going to fill planes on its new route: try $9.

Less than ten bucks to get to and from L.A. and Vegas—jaw dropping!

Of course, after you add in taxes and fees the sale price goes up to $39 for a round-trip ticket, but still, that’s a lot less than it would cost to fill up your car and drive back and forth between the two cities. In fact, with sky-rocketing gas prices you could easily fly your entire family to Las Vegas and back without putting a dent in your bank account.

Just don’t pack heavy. According to Spirit Airlines, any passenger whose bag needs to be placed in the overhead compartment will have to shell out an additional $30. It’s $30 if you pay in advance online, but if you wait to pay at the gate when you check-in, the fee increases to $45. If your bag is small enough to fit under the seat you won’t have to pay a dime.

The super cheap fares are available for travel between May 10 and June 15, 2011. However, there are a few blackout dates, including May 24-25, 31 and June 1.

If you prefer SeaWorld to Sin City, you can score spring break discounts by using coupon codes offered on themeparkcodes.com. The aquatic-themed playground for kids of all ages recently made headlines by announcing that it is slowly working to get trainers back in the water with killer whales. The news comes one year after a 6-ton orca named Tilikum drowned a trainer in Orlando.

In the months following Dawn Brancheau’s death SeaWorld has spent tens of millions of dollars purchasing and installing new safety equipment in its pools, including rising floors that can lift people and whales from the water. The theme park also acquired underwater vehicles to distract marine life during emergency situations.
