Scrapbooking is meant to be a relaxing hobby that puts to use every creative fiber in your being. Unfortunately, there are some scrappers out there that take things to extremes and make the pastime more of a job than an outlet for creative energy.
If you have always wanted to try scrapbooking, but you are simply too overwhelmed by the amount of supplies, tools and layout potentials that exist, don’t despair. There are several simple ways you can ease into the hobby without going broke or having your head explode.
ACCORDION ALBUMS
Accordion albums are one of the simplest forms of scrapbooking. Instead of using a traditional photo album-like book, your scrapbook vehicle is an accordion or fold-out album that has multiple connected pages. It opens just like an accordion folder and closes with a fancy ribbon.
Accordion scrapbooks are sold in kits and are ideal for beginner scrappers or those who simply don’t have the time, money or patience to create elaborate scrapbooks. Since the pages of the “book” are connected you don’t have to worry about losing your photos or memorabilia. In addition, the kits come with embellishments, so you don’t have to exercise a lot of skill to create a winning design.
PREMADE ALBUMS
Another option for the beginner or busy scrapper is the premade album. Hallmark sells a complete line of these traditional scrapbooks that come pre-embellished. All you need to do is add your photos and the book is done.
The downside to choosing premade scrapbooks is that they only cover certain themes, such as wedding, baby and holidays. The baby theme scrapbook is one of the company’s most popular items. You can choose from traditional blue or pink or opt for neutral yellow, white or cream. Inside the pages are decorated with card stock, patterned paper, and cute embellishments, such as Winnie the Pooh stickers and die-cuts. There is also room for the baby’s birth certificate, photos and other memorabilia.
