Ten Reasons to Quit Smoking Today

  1. Do it for your family. Your parents, your siblings, your spouse, your children. Do you really want to put them through the torture of seeing your health fail from smoking?
  2. Do it for the health of your family and your friends. Secondhand smoke kills approximately three thousand nonsmokers every year. If you like your friends, stop contributing to their chance of developing lung cancer with your cigarette smoke.
  3. Have you had a heart attack? I hope it was fun! Smoking increases your risk of having another one.
  4. Have you had cancer? Smoking increases your risk of developing a second type of cancer.
  5. Are you pregnant? Protect your unborn child’s health by quitting! Smoking while pregnant increases your chances of pre-term delivery, stillbirth, low birth weight, and sudden infant death syndrome.
  6. Be a role model. Quitting sets a good example for your children. And your kids’ friends. Or, think of it this way: close your eyes and imagine your young son or daughter puffing away on a cigarette. If you don’t like that mental picture, maybe you should quit.
  7. Think of the money you’ll save! If a pack of cigarettes costs $2.50, and you smoke a pack every day, that’s $75.00 gone in a month, and over $900.00 in a year. An extra nine hundred dollars in your pocket would come in handy right now, huh?
  8. Do it for control. Don’t be a slave to that stick of tobacco. Don’t let it determine your habits and routines.
  9. Do it for yourself. Don’t you want to live a long and healthy life? Smoking may feel good now, but it is doing horrible things to your body with every puff. Your lungs are filling with icky black tar; your heart is working harder to pump blood around your body. As soon as you quit smoking, your body begins to change in good ways in just twenty minutes.
