The Best of the Baby Blog for December

In honor of the December the best of the Baby Blog, we have to spend time looking at the host of articles available whether to comment on them or to write about them. We look at the issues confronting new parents whether it is their first child or their fifth. We look at the different challenges that confront parents of newborns, infants, toddlers and more.

We here at the Baby Blog do our best to give you everything you could use or need to help with being a parent. Yet, every infant is unique and thus, every form of parenting is also unique. You will find your infants are each different – no two are every truly identical. So what was not a struggle with your first baby, may be a real trial with your second and third and then a true treat with your fourth.

Babies in the News: A Story of Hope at Christmas

This article was selected as the best of the Baby Blog for the month of December because it was a story of hope. It was the story of a Marine unit in Iraq on a routine patrol and the assistance they rendered to an infant girl and her family. This little baby, Mariam, would have died if she did not receive treatment for her rare intestinal abnormality.

This Marine unit did their best to return, night after night, at personal risk to themselves and their lives to bring treatment to this little girl. The medic who rendered this aid and two of his unit were killed when their humvee was struck by an IED. The marine unit continued their work in honor of their fallen friends.

Mariam was eventually brought to the United States and received the lifesaving treatment that will allow her to live a life she might not otherwise have had a chance at. Three men died in their effort to protect and preserve this one single life and we honor them and we salute them. They are the greatest of heroes, caring for and protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Our best of the Baby Blog this month salutes these men: Navy Medic Chris Walsh, Lance Cpl. Eric Valdepenas and Cpl Jared Shoemaker. Thank you for your devotion to duty and for your caring for others beyond yourself. The life of baby Mariam is a tribute to your gift and honor.
