The Dirty Car

Today I’d like to get a little outside the home. I’d like to talk about my turtle shell, my roving home, my car. My car lives in the garage when it’s not taking me where I need to go. My car is a part of my home by extension.

We leased the Light Sage Metallic Ford Escape in March, 2008. I really wanted the car in Kiwi Green Metallic, but the color was obnoxious on the lot. The color looked the way I anticipated it on the hybrid model, but we weren’t buying that.

This has been a nice little car. We run into space problems only when family comes to town. I can move the two car seats so we can fit one more person in the back seat. I could fit a third car seat back there if we needed to, but I’d wish for a bigger car if we took in another foster placement. It would also be much more comfortable for whatever guest is crammed in back with two carseats. We would also be able to go somewhere with both my parents and my husband.

What I want to know is who destroyed my car? When we got the car I had every intention of keeping it nice. My truck was nice and I wanted this car to be too. Somewhere along the way, though, it got too hard to get it washed. Then with two seats in back, it became impossible to get it really clean. The back is awash in a sea of kids’ meal toys and food remnants.

Please tell me I’m not the only parent of small children with a car that looks like mine inside. I need a day when someone can watch the girls and I can take the seats out to go to the car wash.
