The Fifth Week Post-Partum

I can hardly believe that it has already been five weeks since my daughter was born. The anticipation built for nine long months and now that she is finally here, time is flying even more than it was before she was born. Many things have changed in these five short weeks.

Our daughter, while still quite small, has grown considerably. Her thighs are starting to fatten up and her precious little face is also filling out. She has grown in length by at least two inches (probably more) her hands seem bigger too although they do not seem pudgy yet. This week she graduated from the newborn size diapers into the next bigger size and most of her newborn outfits are getting tight especially the sleepers because of her long legs. She is very much emerging out of the newborn stage; she likes to stretch her legs out now instead of keeping them folded womb style. She is very alert and it is clear that she can see much further now than when she was first born. She is definitely noticeably bigger to us but other people tend to be amazed at how small she is.

I have been enjoying the early mornings with my baby daughter. She awakes about an hour before I need to get up to exercise. We share a few minutes while she nurses then she falls back asleep as do I. An hour or so later I slip out of bed to begin my day with a quick yogurt and a workout. I have been focusing this week on my toning workout. It is fairly difficult so I decided to break it up every two days with my dance cardio. So far this has been a good strategy and I have not gotten discouraged by the more difficult workout. At the end of this week I will have been exercising for two weeks post-partum.

All in all things seem to be pretty much back to normal. As a family, we have adjusted quite well to our new addition and life goes on without too much fuss.
