The Fitness Week in Review – October 7 – 13

Can you believe we’re already halfway through October? The days are slipping past at high speed and I feel like we’re busy all the time. Every weekend, we’ve been making a conscious decision to take a break from running on the hamster wheel and relaxing together. Part of the relaxation for me, includes catching up on my reading. The Week in Review is a small effort on my part to help you catch up on any reading or articles you may have missed this week in the fitness blog.

Saturday, October 7

Since our last week in review, we discussed whether or not we know How Old Is Your Body? The body can sometimes be older than we are and this is not what most of us want. The truth is, we want our bodies to be younger and fitter. When we learn our body age, we give ourselves more incentive to work out and eat nutritiously.

Sunday, October 8

We took a day of rest and enjoy a relaxing day on Sunday. It was also a good day to spend with our families.

Monday, October 9

We discussed Breast Cancer Awareness: How Can You Help Prevent Breast Cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and one of the goals is to educate women on how to prevent, treat and survive breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure takes place in just two weeks and exercise can help you to cope with cancer treatments as well as helping you to prevent breast cancer because of lowering estrogen levels.

Tuesday, October 10

In Yoga: How Do You Know Which One to Do, we discussed the variety of yoga methodologies out there that are available for you to learn and practice. In Women’s Fitness: Fast, Fit & Fulfilling we talked about Ediet.com’s chief fitness pro’s fitness program that is designed just for busy women – this fitness outline is a great series of exercises that take just 12 to 15 minutes to perform and it’s a great exercise regimen for those of us always on the run.

Wednesday, October 11

Want to Ramp Up: Burn More Calories in the Same Amount of Time tackled how you can increase the number of calories you burn in an exercise routine by increasing the intensity, the incline or the way you are doing it. In Work Your Abs – Get Flatter in No Time, we found a few more abdominal targeting exercises to help you flatten and tone your abs. In Nordic Walking – Poles & More we discussed what it is to engage in Nordic walking and where to find poles. You can also burn up to 40% more calories than walking regularly.

Thursday, October 12

In Breast Cancer Awareness: Surgery & Fitness, there is a definite relationship between women under going chemotherapy and radiation treatments and walking regularly. Regular fitness can help you maintain a higher red blood cell count while coping with this form of treatment. In Kid Fitness: Getting Your Kids off the Sofa, fitness can play a role in the health of your family – specifically you and your children. It’s cold and flu season and there are a lot of things we can do to help fight the flu. In Turn off Your Cravings, we list several foods and what thirty minutes of cycling or 60 minutes of walking will burn off.

Friday, October 13

Welcome to Friday, in Friday the 13th –TGIFT, we discussed the thank god it’s Friday the thirteenth methodology to help overcome the fear of Friday the 13th. We delved into the history of Friday the 13th as well as the history behnd this day and why so many associate it with bad luck from Norse mythology to the Bible to numerology. Be sure to take a run over to the Pop Culture blog and check out Libby’s Friday the 13th as well!
