The Merry Month of May

I don’t remember Easter ever taking place so late in the year. May is just around the corner. In just a short period of time we’ll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, all scrap worthy occasions.

If you are looking to create a scrapbook as a Mother’s Day gift, then you need to get started right away. Select a theme for your book and round up some photos and embellishments. For example, if you are designing a Mother’s Day layout that showcases all of the gifts your special mom got, then consider creating a flip-open present cut out of cardstock. Next, decorate the gift with ribbon or stickers. Then, attach the present to the top of the page, so you can lift it up to see what is underneath. Inside, place a photo of the child or children who presented mom with the gift or gifts. In addition, include photos of mom opening her Mother’s Day presents. You could also leave space for a journaling block so mom can add some thoughts about her special day.

In years past I’ve made my own Mother’s Day scrapbook with photos taken of me and my daughter celebrating the day. If you are not the crafty type you could simply give mom a scrapbook kit and have her make her own memory book. Choose paper featuring your mom’s favorite colors, and then add embellishments, and remember basic supplies like photo corners and decorative scissors. If you have a large budget and are willing to spare no expense for your mom, then consider purchasing her a new digital camera and some digital scrapbooking software.

Moms-to-be shouldn’t be left out of the mix. If you have a family member or friend who is expecting, then assemble all the supplies for a baby scrapbook and present it to her on Mother’s Day. Include an album, baby-themed paper and embellishments, plus a few photos taken of her during her pregnancy.
