The Reunion – Someone Like Me

I have spent my entire life wishing there was someone like me. I knew at a young age I was different. I cannot explain in every way how I was different, but I knew I was. All I wanted was someone else who could understand me, because my family certainly didn’t. I wasn’t like them at all.

Mom and I in November 2003

And from the instant we laid eyes on each other, I knew that this someone I had been wishing and searching for, was finally here. My birth mother is probably more like me than anyone else in my life.

The first noticeable similarity we shared, was our trademark eyes. The whole family has them.

Beyond the eyes, and beyond my own baby girl, my birth mother is the only other individual I had met that looked like me.

We don’t look identical, but there is certainly no way you cannot tell that we are related.

And for whatever odd reason in my strange obsessed head, that was simply enough.

My mother and I share so many things. Throughout the week, people pointed out some of our mannerisms that were the same. The way we used our hands when we talked, the way we held certain items, the way we walked, etc.

But even beyond that, our personalities were so close to identical it was scary.

Besides the fact that we both absolutely adore teddy bears and have collections that would even put Margarete Steiff to shame, there was so much more.

We are both writers and have been doing such since childhood. In addition, poetry seems to be the chosen expertise for both of us. I am the only one of us that gets paid to write however. We both have dreams of having a book published someday.

And we both love crafts and photography. She is more into the crafts and actually has her own business making bears, so she gets paid good to have fun! I am more into photography and have my own business where I am able to utilize those skills and get paid for it.

We both have high IQ’s, we are both two of the most creative people that either of us have ever met, both of us hated school but love education, both of us are extremely emotional people, both of us are loud and energetic and both of us suffer from ADHD as well as bi-polar. And the best part is, most people don’t know we have either!

In addition we have the same taste in food and clothes, we have the same interests outside of those mentioned above, we both need and crave the big outdoors and there are just so many other ways we are alike.

That week that she visited was an amazing week of self discovery as well as a flash course in “getting to know you 101”. But it made it worth it when I was able to know there was someone else like me!
