The Silent Baby

My baby doesn’t cry that often and she doesn’t really want me to play with her. In fact, most of the time she seems pretty content to just hang out by herself and play or watch the lights on the ceiling. As a mom, this would probably worry you if this is how your baby behaved. In fact, it seems like it is pretty atypical behavior for a baby to be this quiet and laid back.

It would worry more than one parent to have a baby behaving in this fashion, but the fact is that no two babies are the same. I’ve known babies that cry at the drop of a hat. I know other babies that laugh rather than cry. I know babies that will accept a schedule and never deviate from it. I know other babies that you couldn’t get on a schedule if you did absolutely nothing else twenty-four hours a day.

One of a Kind Babies

The point is, your baby is absolutely 100% unique. Even twins who are uniquely and genetically alike can and often do have individual and unique personalities. So if your baby is tranquil and your pediatrician has declared them healthy, then my advice would be enjoy your baby for who they are.

Don’t assume your baby is bored or needs to be entertained. I’ve seen a lot of quiet babies in really busy households – they get so caught up in watching their older, louder siblings and more that they may wait for the quieter moments to show herself off.

Oh and just because your baby is quiet, you shouldn’t think they don’t want your attention. After all, we all enjoy the attentions of the people we love whether we are crying for it or not.

Do you have a quiet baby?
