The Thunder Rolls

Sleep has become a big issue in our house. The toddler is not having any of it. She’s done. She wants to be out partying and doing whatever everyone else is doing. It’s really not all that exciting out here, but I’m sure it is for her.

Jessie was such a good sleeper when she was a baby. We would put her in her bed and she’d flop over and go to sleep. She’d sleep through the night. She took three good naps during the day too. It was wonderful. We had a few rough patches with sleeping but they’ve been fairly short lived.

We’re in a bad time with sleeping right now. Jessie is fighting sleep hard. When it’s nap or bedtime she gets hysterical. She’s terrified and we don’t know what to do to help her. She will not allow us to play music on her CD player anymore; it upsets her. Grandma’s sending a white noise machine like the one Baby E has in her room and we’re really hoping it helps and she doesn’t fight it.

I think our recent problems started when this current crop of spring thunderstorms came in. Jessie does not like the thunder. She talks about it. She asks if the thunder is all gone.

A few days ago not only did we get caught outside when lightening was flashing and thunder was crashing, but we were caught in the rain and got soaked. That day left a lasting impression on her and we’re all still suffering from it. We hate putting her to bed crying hysterically, but the alternatives are worse. We just have to let her work it out and settle herself.

I ordered two books that I’m hoping with help all of us deal with the thunder. In the meantime, pray for sleep.
