The Upside Down Show

Developed by Sesame Workshop, the organization that created educational programming like “Sesame Street” and “Pinky Dinky Doo,” a new show is coming to NOGGIN called “The Upside Down Show.” It stars David Collins and Shane Dundas as two brothers named — you guessed it — David and Shane who live together in their own apartment. Otherwise known as Australian comedic duo The Umbilical Brothers, David and Shane now bring their comedy and creativity to children. The entire premise of the show is that David and Shane like to go where they have never been before, and apparently, they’ve never been anywhere! Along with their cute sidekick Puppet and an invisible pet fly named Fido, David and Shane have their share of crazy adventures.

Whether the brothers are going into space, to a different city, or even just a movie theater, everything is new to them. They even have doors in their apartment that take them to other places like the Puppy Room or the Very Hairy Room. Each episode starts with the brothers giving the people in the home audience an imaginary remote control. With this remote control, the audience is supposed to be able to control the movements of David and Shane, from pausing their movements to rewinding or fast forwarding them. There are even special buttons on the remote that make things crazy for the brothers — like the Upside Down button, for instance.

I think this will be a great show for pre-schoolers because it is yet another program that encourages audience participation. More than just fun, “The Upside Down Show” will help to develop children’s logical and abstract thinking skills and promote even more imaginitive play.
