The Week in Review: November 11

I know this is a day late. I cannot explain why for if I list all of the things that broke in our household that would be my whole blog. In any case, this is the week in review.

Have you ever heard someone talk about how their child knew such and such at a much earlier age than you’re child did? Then they start to imply that perhaps the home schooling thing isn’t working out so well. That’s exactly what we talked about earlier in the week in, The Fallacy of Comparing Children.

Do you teach your children foreign languages? In, 10 Reasons for Foreign Languages, I gave you several reasons for teaching your children foreign languages. While I generally just think that foreign language study is an important part of a good education, your child needs to take at least 2 years for admittance into a good college.

For a few weeks now, we have been talking about a typical course of study. This week, we looked into What Your First Grader Should Know regarding Science and Social Studies. Look this week for the installment of language arts and math. Since everything in this series is internet linked, it is easy to use these lists as a spring board for your own curriculum!

I tackled what I consider to be a difficult topic this week in, When You Should Reconsider Homeschooling. While I truly believe that everyone can home school if they want to, I also recognize that in special situations homeschooling may not be a family’s best option.

Do you have a family of homeschoolers on your Christmas list this year? If you do, make sure to check out, 5 Great Christmas Gifts for the Homeschooling Family on Your List. I have listed some of my favorite gift ideas and places to shop for educational wares. If you have some favorites, I’d love to hear them too!

Finally yesterday, we took a look at a misguided effort to convince someone not to homeschool. Of all the reasons I’ve ever heard against home schooling, I must admit, I’ve never heard the PMS argument. You hadn’t either? Then definitely take a minute and read the blog entitled, Don’t Homeschool–You’ve Got PMS!

As always, I would love feed back and comments with regards to home schooling. Are you interested in hearing about something I haven’t covered? By all means, please let me know!
