I’m sure the makers of Woolite would be pleased to know that my mother lives and dies by their laundry detergent. Interestingly, a new study shows that product loyalty starts at a young age, and that in many cases a child, who sees her parent using a particular cleaner at a young age, will likely go on to use the same product as an adult.
Hence my allegiance to Woolite as well.
I use the liquid detergent on my fine washables, as the product claims it “has no harsh ingredients and won’t cause shrinking, stretching or fading.” Woolite claims that it is so gentle that you can use it dozens of times on the same item and not experience any harsh effects.
So far so good.
I actually just started using Woolite to clean suede and I was surprised by how well it worked. A few years ago I would not have dreamed of attempting to clean suede on my own—with or without Woolite. I figured the delicate material needed to be dry cleaned only. However, I recently discovered that synthetic suede can be cleaned at home provided you follow the washing instructions.
Amazingly, some tags even suggest that you use Woolite on the suede items. For example, I own a relatively inexpensive suede jacket that I spilled chocolate on. To clean, I just dipped a clean cloth into a diluted mixture of Woolite and water and rubbed it on the affected area. Next I blotted the stain with another clean, damp cloth, and then allowed the suede to dry. When the spot had dried, the stain was gone, and I just used a suede brush on the area to restore the nap of the fibers.
If you have a heavily soiled suede item that you want to clean with Woolite, I would suggest filling a sink with lukewarm water, adding a small capful of Woolite to the water and swirling around with your hand. Next, test an area of the suede item for colorfastness with the diluted Woolite mixture. If you all goes well, apply the mixture to your suede item and scrub gently using a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush. When you are done washing the item, wrap it in a clean towel to absorb any excess moisture.
